Águas da Amazônia

DOMNIQ Group plays Philip Glass

An evening-length concert around Philip Glass's Águas da Amazônia, in a new transcription, surrounded by new compositions and self-built instruments.

Combined Creatives produces this new interpretation of the 45-minute work Philip Glass wrote in 1999 for the Brazilian ensemble Uakti. The transcription was developed in collaboration with Philip Glass.

Led by Dutch Music Prize winner DOMNIQ, an ensemble of three percussionists, flute and strings expands the work into a full evening, with new music by DOMNIQ, Emma O'Halloran and Angélica Negrón, Glass's Metamorphosis I, electronics and light. Instruments from different traditions, from a balafon from Burkina Faso to a Glass Marimba from Brazil, shape a sound world inspired by water and the Amazon.

The programme reflects on our relationship with water: what remains, and what echoes, when the source disappears.

Live pilot, Grachtenfestival Amsterdam, August 2025
